The incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said.
According to detectives, the pedestrian was walking westbound on Maple Avenue at the intersection of Stewart Avenue before being involved in the collision with a 2016 Honda CRV that was heading northbound on Stewart Avenue.
The pedestrian suffered multiple trauma injuries and was rushed to an area hospital where the pedestrian was pronounced dead by a staff physician, according to police.
Neither the identity nor the gender of the victim has not yet been released.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. A brake and safety inspection was conducted and the vehicle was then released to the operator, said police. The investigation is ongoing.
